DSL Xpert™ - FAQ
{FAQ Ref. G1007}

Question:  What makes the DSL Xpert protocol analyzer so unique and different from any other DSL Test & Measurement equipment?

Answer: The DSL Xpert, among other features and benefits, has three unique features that put it in a class of its own:

1.      The DSL Xpert is a passive, non-intrusive system. It does NOT emulate either the DSLAM or the CPE modem. It is a sniffer that records and analyzes the communication between the DSLAM and CPE, and provides not only the measurements but also warnings of ADSL Standard incompatibility without affecting the modems under test or the test results.

2.      The DSL Xpert does not contain an ADSL chipset inside. It is an independent, unbiased system that does not rely on any available ADSL chipset and is not limited by any specific chipset capabilities. This feature allows an unprecedented ability to provide unbiased evaluation of the modems under test. It also allows TraceSpan to provide frequent software updates that follow the ADSL Standard amendments.

3.      The DSL Xpert analyzes all layers, from the Physical ADSL layer through the ATM and up to the IP. Unlike other devices that analyze the upper layers only, the DSL Xpert is the only system that provides the unique ability to drill down from the Upper Layers to the Physical Layer and provide valuable information to both software and hardware engineers.
